Volume calculations and earthworks

In earthworks, money is measured in cubic metres. Independent geodetic measurement and volume calculation give the investor and the contractor an objective account of the work actually performed — no rough estimates, no disputes over quantities.

Excavation and embankment volumes

We survey the terrain before works begin (the zero state) and after them, and convert the difference between terrain models into the exact volume of excavated or placed material. We measure with total station, GNSS or drone — on large and irregular sites photogrammetry gives the most complete picture and the smallest error margin.

Stockpile and quarry monitoring

For quarries, gravel pits and landfills we carry out periodic surveys of stock levels. Regular model comparisons give you accurate records of produced, sold or deposited quantities — data that feeds accounting, concession obligations and planning.

Earthworks quantity reports

For contractors we prepare geodetic documentation for interim payment certificates: as-built surveys by phase, cross-sections and quantity calculations per bill-of-quantities item. Orderly geodetic documentation speeds up certification and payment for completed work.

Frequently asked questions

How is an excavation volume calculated?

By comparing digital terrain models before and after the works. The difference between the two models gives the volume — the method is transparent and repeatable, and the result can be independently verified from the same data.

How accurate are the volume calculations?

With a properly surveyed zero state, deviations are typically within 1–3 % of the total volume — far more precise than calculations from design quantities or visual estimates.

How often should a site or stockpile be surveyed?

For payment certificates we survey by work phase (monthly or on completion of an item); for stockpiles and quarries usually quarterly or semi-annually — the rhythm follows the dynamics of the works.

What do I receive as a deliverable?

A report with the volume calculation, graphic annexes (site plans, cross-sections, 3D views) and digital data your designer or accountant can use directly.
